Race Saved

Philadelphia's two casino companies reportedly put up the last-minute cash needed to save the city's annual professional bike race.
The Philadelphia Inquirer, quoting unidentified sources, says the SugarHouse and Foxwoods casinos have committed about $100,000 each in funding for the TD Bank Philadelphia International Cycling Championship.
This will be the 25th year for the 156-mile Manayunk bike race. It's considered the premier one-day pro bike race in the country.

Save the Race!

Save the Race – You can help! Purchase a Gold or Silver ticket to the race, an Embrace the Race poster or sticker. The event that started it all for international, professional cycling in the U.S. needs your help. After 24 years as the largest single-day, professional cycling race in North America, the Philadelphia International Championship (scheduled Sunday June 7, 2009) is in jeopardy. The economic challenges experienced in both corporate and civic circles have converged to create a shortfall in the operating budget of the race’s 25th year, and the reality of the situation is that unless a $500,000 gap can be closed in the next several days, the race will be cancelled. Help us Save the Race by purchasing official race posters and decals. Thank you for your support!

Lower Providence (Norristown) Criterium

Three members of CB Velo competed in the Lower Providence (Norristown) Criterium today (Sunday April 19). Steven Hawkins (Juniors), Rob Muller (Cat 4) and Jason Wood (Cat 3). Jason finished in 5th place...and received a cash award. Rob finished in 16th place out of 50+ riders...and received an attaboy. Steven finished the Juniors race...and a pat on the back. Good job to all the racers! BTW, where was the rest of the CB Velo gang? It was a beautiful day, sunny warm, 70F, great course, good turnout of riders for every Category, etc. Hope to see you at the next event. Photo of Rob Muller in action (Blue CB Velo Kit, White Cannondale Bike)...thanks for the photo Steve.

Spring/Summer 2009 Rides

There are 3 weekly rides that I'll be doing this Spring/Summer (when I'm not on travel) that I think the rest of the club will be interested in. They are: a Tuesday Night Ride (TNR) leaving from Cold Spring Elementary (CSE) at 530 pm, a Thursday Night Derby Ride (ThNDR) leaving from Starbucks in Doylestown at 530 pm and a Sunday morning Derby Ride (Derby) leaving from Cold Spring Elementary (CSE) at 0900. The TNR is an interval workout ride that we'll be doing on River Rd. (NJ) with TWiley Sports athletes. If you're interested in joining us for that ride, please email me ahead of time, mullerrj@comcast.net , to let me know you're coming...because we'll be pairing people up for intervals. The ThNDR is an abbreviated/shorter version of the Sunday Derby Ride. It's a fast/hard ride. (Well, it's fast/hard for me.) And, the Derby Ride..is a sane/easy ride up to Milford NJ, then hammer down..and try to hold on. Or, take a short cut (like I've done in the past) to meet-up with the BIG DAWGS! If there are any questions on any of these 3 rides, email me. Ride-on!

Wood finishes 2nd at Princeton Stadium Classic

Jason Wood placed 2nd today in the Cat 3/4 Criterium, Saturday March 7th, at the Princeton Stadium Classic, Princeton NJ. You couldn't ask for a nicer day, sunny/warm 75 deg F, slight breeze.

Jason came in 2nd place, all by himself, with the nearest 3rd place competitors 400 meters behind. The winner bested Jason by about the same margin. There were approximately 30+ cyclists in Jason's group at the start of the race..comprised of Cat 3/4 racers and Masters 35+ racers. At the end of the race, I'm betting that 1/2 dropped out..either pulling out on their own or being lapped by the field and "officially" yanked.

You can see photos of Jason in his race on: http://www.pbase.com/mullerrj/princeton_bike_race&page=all

Jason is racing Category 3 for 2009 and already accumulating points for his Category 2 racing license. Way to go Jason, keep up the good work! Oh yeah, although Jason is pictured here with his 2008 HRC kit, he'll be racing for CB Velo in 2009.

Sunday Ride

Sunday morning we're leaving at 0900 from Cold Spring Elementary School and headed to Hillsborough CC in NJ, and back. The ride is/was named after my dog (and best friend) who died unexpectedly last year from Lymphoma. Here's a link to the ride: http://cbvelo.blogspot.com/2008/07/kalis-runa-50-mile-ridethat-has-it-all.html

The ride should take about 3 1/2 hrs. and average about 17-18 mph..nothing too fast. So, come out and join us for a great day of riding..weather is supposed to be PERFECT!
